Quick Question for Last SLEC Meeting Before Conventions

I was wondering if there were any updates for the location and possible hotel rates for our last SLEC meeting before Convention Season.

Well, the update is that I was planning to get on this evening and announce that there would not be a meeting in February, but you beat me to it! ;)

A conversation came up at the November meeting regarding whether we needed a meeting in February, and at that time I was actually in favor of it. I started to change my mind over the holiday weeks, and had a conversation with Carter yesterday re logistics, during which we both agreed it would be better to pass on this meeting. So let's say that as of today the Chair has no plans to call a meeting in February.

A couple of things about that:

If anyone here is really intent on getting us together in person in February, we are required by our rules to meet if at least one-third of the body requests it. So the move there is to reach out to your colleagues and see if you can put together enough support to call for a meeting. If so we can set one up for the third or fourth week in February (it's gonna take a minute, and I'm pretty sure we can't process the call mechanics and nail down the venue in time for 2/7). If not, then case closed.

Alternatively, the forums are available 24/7, and we are certainly capable of conducting any business there that needs to get done between now and convention.

Those who know me know I'm a big fan of in-person communication and the more nuanced communication it facilitates, so my presumption would always be that we'd meet in-person rather than not. In this case, though, I think the cost/benefit equation for the organization comes up negative. See you in April if not sooner!

Thank you for the update @Andrew Amelang.

If there is no move to have a meeting in February by any of the other members of SLEC, I'll see everyone in Abilene in April. :)

From a financial perspective, there’s no denying that the cost savings would do us good.

Perhaps we could still post reports here in the Forum, though? In particular, I’d like to see a quarterly Treasurer’s report prior to convention.
The body would have had it by now but for me catching the flu in early January and losing about a month over it. I'm back with the living but catching up other stuff first. My intent is to get to this over the weekend or first half of next week.
