Request for co-sponsors: bylaws template change

With the new structure of SLEC, a change needed to be made to the new county bylaws that we are currently using. The only thing needs to be changed is article 7 to match the new LPTexas bylaws. Attached is the new wording that is being proposed. Thank you Patrick Mitchell for taking the lead on this! I am requesting co-sponsors to approve this change.

That last sentence could use a tweak. The first and last portions of it say sort of the same thing, but differently, and the syntax is hard to follow. One fix would be to simply delete the first phrase:

A majority vote of Voting Affiliates in attendance at a business meeting or a 2/3 vote of the CEC shall determine the vote cast on behalf of the County Affiliate.

I believe its written the same as the current one, Just updated.
 
I'm confused by this wording. Does this mean the county affiliates are choosing the new SLEC member? And is this supposed to be for the county bylaws template that they may or may not choose to use? Travis County has our own bylaws that are about 25 years old and nothing like the standardized bylaws. It seems to me that if there's a SLEC vacancy, the counties could nominate people but it would be up to SLEC to select the new member.
 
This is to update the template bylaws that are given to new chairs when they affiliate the new county. It will be up to the currently affiliated counties to fix their own bylaws to adhere to the newly adopted state bylaws that were passed at the convention.

Yes, in the same manner that has been in place for a few years now, just adjusted for at-large rather than district elections.

Yes. According to LPTexas' Policy Manual II.C.3. County Bylaws Template

LPTexas bylaws prescribe the method by which SLEC vacancies are filled. SLEC has not been filling it's own vacancies since 2018 which is why you've never seen us take a vote on filling our own vacancies, but new members have still been added midterm.

I expect the new bylaws and platform documents will be uploaded to Egnyte and the website soon, but in the meantime, this is the method in LPTexas' bylaws for filling vacancies.
