To establish an ad-hoc committee to form a resolution for a referendum on Texas Independence.

We have an adequately co-sponsored motion: To establish an ad-hoc committee composed of six (6) members with the exclusive objective of forming, amending, and providing for a resolution for a referendum on Texas Independence.

This poll will run for up to 96 hours, and may be closed after 48 hours if the majority threshold for passing is met.

EDITED TO CORRECT VOTE THRESHOLD ERROR.

NOTE, FOR THIS AND ANY OTHER ONLINE MOTIONS THIS TERM: Due to character limits, I have to condense the text of the motion for the thread title and for the poll question. The motion we are voting on, as originally proposed and co-sponsored, is the boldfaced text above in this post. And yes, I did the same thing a few minutes ago on the elector vote. And I did the same thing on the previous bylaw amendment vote, but I didn't call it out at the time because the editing wasn't as drastic. In all cases and going forward, the motion being voted on is the text in the post that comes after "We have an adequately co-sponsored motion:".

Can you clarify what you mean by "4/5 majority to pass, or 28 votes in favor"? Those numbers don't seem congruent to me.

So just trying to understand the process before voting. A committee is formed to draft a resolution for a referendum. Then does SLEC vote on that referendum or is this vote then moved to the next State convention body? Basically what it the process of getting a resolution like this passed?

Another question: The Texit movement is an organization in itself with quite a few members. Is the adoption of a referendum like this just showing our official support as a party, are there any further obligations with the movement?

A committee will be formed. I will ask for volunteers to be seated on the committee, once SLEC approves the members and seated, the committee can begin meeting and present their findings at the next SLEC meeting in august.

The resolution is not meant to intertwine ourselves with an advocacy group. The resolution is meant to make our position known that we support a referendum on Texas independence. I personally don’t believe LP Texas is obligated to do anything with an advocacy group outside of a coalition agreement.

I strongly recommend all representatives getting opinions from your constituents on this issue and share them with the Forum.
This discussion may help recruit new and prior members to the party.
Ideally, they will want to volunteer for our candidate campaigns.
At least, put up a yard sign(s) in a high traffic area(s) in their neighborhoods.
