Referendum on Texas independence

Here is a copy of the Referendum on Texas independence that the committee has agreed to present to SLEC. We would appreciate any feedback prior to the Aug 3rd meeting so we can make any adjustments prior to presenting. We wanted to keep it to one page, limit redundancy and get the point across while incorporating as much of the intricacies as possible. In case you don't want the file i will post the text in the first reply. Thanks to the committee - Aaron Ramos, Darren Pollok (Secretary), Nathan Garza, Steve Ravet (Chair), Trey Holcomb, Clint Pohler and myself.

Resolution For A Referendum On Texas Independence
WHEREAS, The Republic of Texas existed as an independent nation for nine years, and when it
accepted admission to the Union in 1845, it remained a free and independent state subject only to the
United States Constitution; and
WHEREAS, The United States Congress has passed thousands of laws and the Executive branch
has enacted thousands of executive orders in violation of the Tenth Amendment to the U.S.
Constitution; moreover, the federal government has caused the intentional devaluation of its currency
through its reckless spending and borrowing, which threatens the economic stability of Texas; and
WHEREAS, The United States government has allowed the use of its authority, credit, and goodwill
for the benefit of private and foreign concerns in violation of its own constitution; and
WHEREAS, Section 1, Article I, Texas Constitution, states that "the perpetuity of the Union depend
upon the preservation of the right of local self-government, unimpaired to all the States"; Section 2,
Article I, declares, "All political power is inherent in the people, and all free governments are founded
on their authority, and instituted for their benefit. The faith of the people of Texas stands pledged to
the preservation of a republican form of government, and, subject to this limitation only, they have at
all times the inalienable right to alter, reform or abolish their government in such manner as they may
think expedient"; and,
WHEREAS, Section 4, Article 3, Libertarian Party of Texas Platform, states that “LPTexas fully
supports the rights of the people to alter their form of government. As the U.S. federal government is
increasingly expanding its influence well beyond its Constitutional authority and clearly violating
citizens' rights as guaranteed by the Bill of Rights, the right of the people of Texas to alter their form of
government, as stated in Article I Section 2 of the Texas Constitution, must be acknowledged by
allowing Texans to have an honest and frank discussion on the merits of independence and being
allowed to vote accordingly to reassert Texas' Independence.”; now,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Libertarian Party of Texas urges the Texas Legislature to
pass a bill in its next session requiring a referendum in the 2025 general election for the people of
Texas to decide on whether or not the State of Texas should reassert its status as an independent
nation.
FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED, that as political separation is fraught with challenging issues to be
negotiated such as agreements for currency, economics, travel, military, border, debt, and maintaining
civil rights, the Libertarian Party of Texas insists that any Committee that is formed to negotiate with
the federal government include representation from the Texas Libertarian Party along with other
political parties, and that changes to the Texas Constitution or laws resulting from separation respect
the libertarian principles enshrined in the US Constitution.
