Motion (Seeking Co-Sponsors): Expand Policy Committee to 7 Members and Make Appointments

Jessi Cowart

Vice Chair
Hello SLEC,

At our February SLEC meeting, this body approved the creation of a Policy Committee.

Be it moved that LPTexas establishes a Policy Committee charged with reviewing our existing Policy Manual and proposing changes for consideration by SLEC.

The committee will consist of up to five (5) members with the LPTexas Vice Chair and Executive Director filling two (2) of those positions and the other three (3) being filled from among applicants who have indicated interest in serving on the committee using approval voting in which winners are determined both by being the highest vote getters and receiving votes in favor from a majority of ballots cast, including empty ballots.

We subsequently solicited volunteers for the committee, followed by an OpaVote ballot being sent out to the body for a vote. Andrew reported the results in the same thread where the volunteers were solicited.
Results are in:

John Wilford 26
Kenneth Feagins 24
Billy Pierce 18
Anastasia Wilford 18
Daniel Thornton 17
NOTA 2
Total ballots cast 37

John and Kenneth, welcome to the Policy Committee!

None of the other candidates achieved a malority of the votes cast, so one seat on the committee remains open. SOP in this situation is for the committee members to fill the vacancy. Committee, once you’ve had your initial meeting, whoever’s elected Chair please let us know who the committee officers are and who the fifth member is.

Again, congrats John and Kenneth!

As only 2 committee members spots were filled, there is still one more spot. As Andrew indicated above, standard procedure is for the committee to fill the vacancy. However, because there were only 3 other volunteers (all of whom received same/similar vote totals), I move that the Policy Committee be expanded from 5 to 7 members and that Anastasia Wilford, Billy Pierce and Daniel Thornton all be appointed to Policy Committee.
